Community Service

Join us in making a difference in our local community! Kiwanis Cares, in partnership with local non-profits, empowers children in need by promoting self-esteem and positive self-image. By supporting our mission, you can help bring hope and opportunity to families, neighbors, and friends. Together, we can inspire positive change and create a brighter future for generations to come.

The annual Kiwanis Cares Essential Items Drive is a crucial initiative that takes place at the start of every school year. With so many children lacking access to essential items during the summer months, it’s imperative that we come together to support those in need. By working closely with schools and partnering with other organizations, we’re able to ensure that every child receives the items they require to succeed. With the program now serving 29 schools throughout the county, and adding more every year, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of children in our community.

Every year, our Kiwanis Cares sock drive collects and distributes warm, dry socks to children in our community. For many of these children, walking to school in the cold without socks on their feet is a harsh reality. Socks are an essential item that many of us take for granted, but for those in need, they are a huge blessing. With the help of our members and partner organizations, our most recent drive collected 5,035 socks, which were distributed to all 42 schools in Washington County, as well as several non-profit organizations.

As volunteers for Washington County’s Day of Caring, we were part of something truly incredible. The opportunity to be a part of Washington County’s biggest volunteer effort was both humbling and inspiring. It was such a rewarding experience to be able to help those in need within our community through the Kiwanis organization.

Miach’s Backpack is designed to feed hungry students through a partnership between Washington County Public Schools, The Hagerstown Area Religious Council, The Maryland Food Bank, and more than 50 sponsoring churches and community organizations.   Every Friday during the school year, identified students receive a backpack filled with two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, snacks, juice, and milk boxes.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an organization comprising of volunteers who are committed to creating, putting together, and delivering bunk beds to children and families who are in dire need of them. A bed is an essential necessity for every child to receive proper physical, emotional, and mental support. Kiwanis and Key Club volunteers were pleased to have the opportunity to participate in a community bed build.
